45-year-old Ennore Thermal Power Station will cease generation once for all

In order to commission the 660 MW supercritical ETPS the 45-year-old Ennore Thermal Power Station will cease generation once for all. Ennore Thermal Power Station near Chennai was commissioned in the year 1970. 1050 permanent employees and 300 contract employees were working in this thermal plant. The Ennore thermal plant comprises five units which produced 450 MW.
Since there were repairs in power units, the production in the adjacent units were stopped. Finally the 4th unit which was producing 60 MW was stopped. In view of the foregoing it has been decided to commission the 660 MW supercritical ETPS.
However, the decommissioning of the plant has created uncertainty for the officers and the staff working in the plant over their future. The TANGEDCO board directed that the existing officers and the staff should be beneficially utilized elsewhere without affecting their seniority and other benefits as being available to them now.
