Tamil Nadu govt enhances maternity leave from 6 to 9 months

The Tamil Nadu State Government has issued an order enhancing the maternity leave for women workers from 6 months to 9 months.
S. Swarna, IAS (Secretary to Government) Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department has issued a government order 105 dated 7.11.2016 with regard to the enhancement of maternity leave.
On 1.9.2016, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had made an announcement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly promising to increase the leave period from the existing six months or 180 days to nine months, i.e. 270 days. Based on the Chief Minister Jayalalitha assurance, this order has been implemented now.
Woman employees with less than two surviving children were eligible for the 9-month maternity leave with full pay. The women government servants who proceeded on maternity leave, prior to the date of issue of this order and continue to be on this leave as of now, are also eligible for availing maternity leave upto nine months (270 days) in total.
