Soon, AR app for public transport commuters

Posted on: 07/Nov/2016 6:28:42 PM
A new startup is trying to bring augmented reality, or AR, to public transport users in Chennai. Icommute is currently beta-testing its AR feature which will ease navigation, aiding smartphone-savvy commuters.

With the app, a user can navigate in narrow space and fine tune his or her search. For instance, stops with very few buses plying may not have any signage or shelter, but this can be marked virtually on the app using GPS which can later be identified by anyone using the AR option. This will merge the mapped information provided by the user along the camera screen to indicate the destination. With daily commuters marking and mapping information in real-time, this will reduce errors occurring on maps.

Speaking about this, the founders of icommute say, With a livefeed and a Twitter-aggregator button for traffic updates adding to this trough of data, the AR feature will enhance commuter experience so that public transport is used more effectively. The app has 5,000 active users in the city at present.
