Smart ration cards to be issued in two months

Four crore people have given the Aadhar details at their PDS shops. Very soon they will be issued smart cards in lieu of ration cards. There are 2.03 ration cards in Tamil Nadu. Majority of the cards are in depleted state, hence the Tamil Nadu government has decided to issue new ration cards in the form of smart cards.
Point of Sales has been installed in the ration shops for this purpose. Ration shop employees will feed these machines with ration card details, Aadhar numbers and mobile numbers.
Till yesterday, 1.95 crore ration cards, 1.51 crore mobile numbers and 4.04 crore Aadhar cards have been registered. An official of the civil supplies corporation said: Smart ration card integration work is being carried out by a private firm at a cost of Rs 318 Crores. Now an app has been developed. With this app once can register the Aadhar card without coming to the shop. The ration shop is also empathizing its consumers to swiftly register the Aadhar cards. Only in big cities like Chennai, Aadhar registration is low. As soon the people register the Aadhar cards, the smart cards will be issued in 2 months.
