MTS launches data connectivity on Chennai-Bangalore highway

The MTS telecom brand promoted by Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) bets on high-speed data (HSD) services for growth. The company launched its seamless HSD connectivity service across the Chennai-Bangalore highway on Wednesday.

“This is our second launch after introducing the same, along the Delhi-Jaipur highway in July,” said Cheenu Seshadri, chief strategy officer of SSTL. “We plan to launch the service along other highways across India. The company will invest over Rs 130 crore in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the next one year.”

SSTL has set up about 40 cell cites along the highway to facilitate seamless high-speed internet to MTS data users traveling on the route. The highway is among the busiest in south India with over 20,000 vehicles plying on it on any given day.

Travellers mostly prefer the road between the two cities especially after the Bangalore airport was shifted close to Devanahalli, over 40 km outside the city, in 2008. Trains are usually overbooked for the route. MTS will also enhance its retail presence along the route for customer assistance, he added.
