92,000 electronic voting machines for local body polls

A total of 92,000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in the local body elections to be held in the State on 17 and 19 October.
Tamilnadu State Election Commission press release said `The Commission will employ 92,451 EVMs across the State. Chennai will have 4,876 polling booths with 20,525 EVMs.`
Names of the contestants would be entered into theelectronic voting machines by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) officials, it said. These technical officials from BHEL will reach all the districts a day before the poll date.
The commission will use 41, 587 EVMs for Municipal Corporations and 20,864 and 30,000 EVMs for Municipalities and Municipal Panchayats respectively.
