Medical college admission to take place based on NEET rank list

The Indian Medical Council has given its nod to admit students into private and deemed medical universities based on NEET ranking list. Furthermore, students can select their preferred college by themselves.

The Supreme Court had ordered to fill 15 percent of seats in private and deemed medical universities based on NEET scores. Accordingly, CBSE conducted the first phase of NEET exam on 1st May and second phase on 24th July. On 16th of this month, results of these two exams were announced.
 
A total of 4,09,477 candidates including 1,83,424 boys, 2,26,049 girls, and 4 transgender took up the examination. However, there prevailed confusion on how the counselling will take place for the selected candidates. Parents and students were left confused.
 
Students who are qualified in the NEET exam can apply for MBBS or BDS in their preferred college. These colleges are set free to decide whether or not to admit the student based on the NEET ranking list, according to an announcement by the Indian Medical Council.
 
Following this, private and deemed medical universities have started advertising that students can apply for seats in their respective colleges. And students have also started applying for medical seats in their preferred college based on their NEET score.
 
There are 52,000 MBBS seats and 22,000 BDS seats in private and government medical colleges across the country. Out of this, 35,000 MBBS seats and 16,000 BDS seats are filled based on NEET scores.  For the total of 51,000 MBBS and BDS seats, 4,09,477 candidates are competing. This has given rise to severe competition for seats.
 
No change in fees
 
Candidates can apply for their preferred college based on their NEET score. And student admission will take place based on NEET rank list. There are no changes with the NEET fees structure though.
