As more quantities of vegetables arrive from other states in the Chennai wholesale vegetable market at Koyambedu, there has been a steep fall in the prices of vegetables. Especially, the price of tomato has gone down drastically and it is sold at Rs.3/- per kg.

Eggplant or brinjal is sold at Rs. 10/- per kg. Okra or Lady’s finger is sold at Rs. 5/- per kg. Cabbage sells at Rs. 8/- per kg and beans at Rs. 20/- per kg.

Small onion is sold at Rs. 15/- per kg and the big onions (Bellary ) is sold at Rs. 20/- per kg.

As the monsoon season rains have intensified, there is an increase in the growth of vegetables in many areas throughout the country.

Thus, the quantity of vegetables arriving at Chennai has increased leading to the fall in vegetable prices.
