According to a recent research, those eating homemade food are less prone to type-2 diabetes, as compared to others who take such food less often. These days, people tend to eat outside food more often which is junk or fast food in most cases.

Such outside food contain very less nutrients, but have rich energy. This will give rise to increase in weight which leads to increased risk of type 2 diabetes, said researchers from the Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health in the US.

The role of home made meals in giving rise to long term risk like diabetes or obesity is so far not extensively studied.

This study involved a large volume of data and had a long period follow-up of US health professionals including both men and women. Data on health indicators in them were collected during this period along with self-reported data on the eating practices and incidence of diabetes in each and every individual studied.

The results thus obtained were corrected for several aspects that may influence the dining habits including that of marriage status. This study involved analyzing follow-up data of over 2.1 million years.

The research findings state that those who had 5 to 7 servings of homemade food during weekdays had lesser risk of type 2 diabetes by 15 percent as compared to others who had just 2 servings of homemade food. The researchers also added that there was substantial reduction in the likeliness of diabetes in those who had more of homemade lunch.

There are other analyses that state that this reduction in occurrence of type 2 diabetes is evident with lesser weight gain in those who eat homemade food. Significant preventive measures for diabetes include more of exercise and better food habits. According to the findings of this research, homemade food can largely add lifestyle benefits and contain preventive effects for diabetes. Results of the study were published in the journal PLOS medicine.
