Its imperative to have CCTVs fixed across TN

Posted on: 28/Jun/2016 1:27:59 PM
Swathi is a Chennaite aging 24. She resides in Chrompet. Creating shock waves, she was brutally assassinated at Nungambakkam railway station on 24th this month.

Now, the Chennai police officials are in full swing action to identify the assassin. Their work has now got toughened and challenging because of not enough evidence.

They are bound to arrest the murderer in two days failing which the case will be forwarded to the High Court, according to orders passed by S. Nagamuthu, High Court Judge yesterday.

Amidst these, the senior judge of Chennai High Court, N. Kripakaran has forwarded a letter to the High court Chief Justice Sanjaykishan that this scenario is caused because of absence of enough CCTV cameras at the railway station. This has put the police officials in predicament. There are a number of key areas in Chennai that lack in having enough CCTV cameras.

Taking this under consideration, the chief justice Sanjaykishan’s council Justice R. Mahadevan, came forward to file a case in this regard. This came for hearing today where it was stated that the public safety law has come to practice in Andhra Pradesh. Likewise, why shouldn’t the centre pass out orders that each and every state need to implement the law.

Most important places in Chennai city shall have advanced CCTV cameras fixed. A list of all places that currently have CCTV cameras and those that need cameras to be fixed at the moment, the total cost required to fix cameras, and the time period required for the centre to allot budget for the same, etc need to be jotted down.

The government stands responsible in maintaining law and order. Hence it is imperative for the state police department and railway department to have all vacant positions filled by now, as there is large increase in crimes taking place. What stands as hurdle for the Tamil Nadu government to fill these vacancies?

In fact, a police control room to take complete control over the entire district need to be set up across the state. This need to be linked with each and every police station and all CCTV cameras need to be networked with this control room.

Furthermore, cameras are also needed to be fixed to prevent road accidents and traffic rule violations. The central and state governments need to reply to all these questions in another four weeks. The case will come for hearing on 4th of August, the justice ordered.
