Shortage of doctors in Small Stanley Hospital - special departments remain closed

Posted on: 25/Jun/2016 4:16:51 PM
Named ‘Small Stanley Hospital’ by the North Chennai Residents, the hospital was started in a 15-acre area in the year 1979.

The special departments of dentistry, bones and skin in the Small Stanley Hospital, located in Tondiarpet remain closed due to the shortage of doctors.

This has led to the hardship of the patients who are forced to go to private hospital.

This hospital has 150 beds and functions under the control of Stanley Hospital.

More than 100 inpatients and over 300 outpatients get treated daily in this hospital.

Apart from the general treatment, the hospital has some special departments for complaints regarding skin, bones, teeth, ear, nose, and throat.

However, special doctors are yet to be appointed in these departments. So, these departments remain closed. The patients coming for treatment for these departments are recommended to go to Stanley Hospital.

As there are no special facilities available in the childbirth department, the pregnant women are asked to go the RSRM hospital in Royapuram.

Medicines and tablets are also not available in the hospital. There are no facilities for blood test, urine test or Xrays. As most of the patients are diverted to Stanley Hospital,  hospital remains almost unoccupied.

More than 100 patients come here daily for sugar and high blood pressure treatment. However, there are no doctors to attend. Even there is a shortage of nurse, proper treatment and care is not administered to the patients.

Virtually, only the hospital building remains sans most facilities!

The State Minister for Health must take this problem on hand and initiate remedial activities.
