The southwest monsoon has intensified in the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra, Kerala and the northern states.

Due to thermal convection and cyclonic form in the upper layers, it has been raining in a few places in Tamil Nadu.

As Chennai remains under cloudy weather, and there have been rains in a few places, the severity of summer has abated.

There are prospects of medium rains in the next 5 days in a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

A brief from an official from the Chennai Metro Meteorological Centre:

There has been a multiple-layer cyclonic formation over the West Central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra coast. This will probably lead to the formation of a low depression zone in this place in the next 48 hours.

Heavy rains may be expected in Andhra because of this. However, there are no prospects of rain in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

There may be light to medium rain in the next 48 hours in a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy. There may be light to medium drizzle in a few places in the city.

The maximum rainfall in the last 34 hours has been recorded at 3 cm in the Nilgiri District Koodalur Bazaar Central Circle.
