Measures to control assaults by college students

Posted on: 18/Jun/2016 3:21:54 PM
After vacation holidays, all schools and colleges have got reopened. College goers who travel in buses get involved in quarrels and assault others using sickles and logs.

They tease girls and attack the public, bus drivers and conductors. They also cause damage to public properties.

A discussion meet took place at the commissioner’s office yesterday to discuss the ways in which these untoward incidents can be stopped. This discussion was headed by D.K. Rajendran, Police Commissioner, and the meet saw participation from Seshisai, Shankar, Abayakumar Singh, Varadharaj, etc. Ten important plans were discussed during the meet. Below are points discussed:
  • Ban on celebrating bus day. Traveling on footboard and over the roof top of the bus are not allowed
  • It is mandatory for all college students to carry their identity card. College administration should not allow students who come without ID card
  • Bags and belongings of college students need to be checked compulsorily
  • It is a must for the college management to fix CCTV camera at the college entrance, hostel, canteen and college campus
  • Former students and outsiders should not be allowed within the college campus
  • Severe action need to be taken against students who get involved in assaults and fights. Those who continually practice these need to be suspended
  • Students should be given with necessary advice and suggestions by conducting discussion meets more often
  • Bus drivers or conductors, or public need to inform the police control room in case of such booing activity. Police officials will take necessary immediate action

  • Complaints on students can be filed at 95000 99100 through SMS
  • Cameras should be compulsorily fixed in buses in city
Above are some of the points discussed during the meet. Police officials will be deployed in important routes in Chennai between time 8 am and 9 am when college goers travel in more number. Likewise, police will be deployed at times when noon college students return back to home.
