Aadi Amavasya is the New Moon day in the Vedic month of Aadi (July-August). And on this darkest night in the month of Aadi (July - August), tarpanams are performed to our ancestors as it is believed that this day is dedicated to them.
Aadi Amavasai is on 30 July 2011 (Saturday). Aadi Amavasai Timings is from 2am (30 July 2011) to 1am (31 July 2011).
During Aadi Amavasai people gather at holy thirthas especially at Rameshwaram, take holy dip and offer their respect to their forefathers. Many people fast on this day by taking just one meal a day.
