PMK breaks ties with DMK

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), key alliance party in DMK front ended their 5 months old partnership with the DMK-led alliance on Wednesday.
The general council of the party, which met here on Wednesday, resolved to work towards forming an alternative and bringing together like-minded parties and organisations.
The alliance forged before the Assembly elections in April lasted a little over few months this time, but without any significant positives for either partner in the hustings. The PMK won only three of the 30 Assembly seats it contested, while DMK was reduced to 23.
The general council welcomed the decision to go it alone with loud cheers. The grounds for the snapping of ties were prepared by the top leadership, including party founder S Ramadoss and his son, former Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss.
The Party also decided to contest in the local body elections on its own.
