Posted on: 11/Jun/2016 2:14:51 PM
The Prime Minister’s Skill Development Programme to the unemployed has helped the All India Council for Technical Education or the AICTE to sensitise around 300 representatives from engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu in an event held in Chennai on Friday. The Programme enables skill training to be imparted to the unemployed youth either to get employed or to become self employed.

Speaking at the event, a senior office bearer at AICTE said, The training will be given for 250 hours and the government will give Rs. 40 per hour as training cost to technical institutions. The engineering colleges have to submit their applications before June 15.

The Principal of a leading engineering college and a senior official of AICTE said, The National Skill Development Corporation has identified the areas in which the youth can be trained. Any engineering college with the required infrastructure can apply to participate in this scheme. They can train youths to be electricians, plumbers and so on. The colleges have to mention the training modalities in their proposals. A committee after scrutinising their proposal will give its approvals based on the available facilities in the college. At a time a college can train up to 100 persons. The training under this programme will likely commence from August this year.
