Revision in voters list

Works to optimize voters list in Tamil Nadu have now started. The election commission has ordered to visit each and every house to remove all repetitions of names.
The legislative elections in Tamil Nadu took place on 16th of May. There was 3.6 percent lesser polling as compared to 2011 election. The election commission took this as a serious issue and analyzed the reasons behind. In this, they discovered that the reason for such lesser polling was repetition of voters names, location of polling booth, etc. Hence, they are in a spree to revise the voters list by removing names of the dead and repeated names, make necessary change of address, etc. Further, details about polling booth location are also being done.
Based on the discussions made during the meeting on 25th of last month in New Delhi, the election commission has issued a few ordinances. Officials from the election commission state that they have decided to wrap up revisions with voters list across India by 31st of August. We show extra focus towards these works this year. Eligible names need to be included in the list. Change of address, repetition of names, names of the dead, etc need to be made in the list.
According to the rules of election commission, the voters list should contain only high quality images of the voters and each and every voter need to be given with individual election id number. It is important to create awareness among the people that they should come forward to share such details. Officials from polling booths need to visit every house to gather information.
These voters need to be categorized based on families, houses and streets. There should be one polling booth for every 1000 voters in villages and one for every 1200 voters in the city. Range should be set for each of the polling booths.
It is also important to know if the polling booths are located in appropriate places. If necessary, the polling booths need to be shifted. Works to analyze facilities with polling booths and their exact location are to be completed before 20th August.
