Election Commission getting ready for civic polls

There are 12 corporations in Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Kovai, Madurai, Tiruchi and Tirunelveli. Apart from this, there are 125 municipalities, 529 town panchayats and 12, 524 village panchayats. With the term for the current local body representatives ending by the third week of October, elections are likely to be by the mid of October.
Elections are to be conducted for 1, 32,458 posts directly and indirectly for 14,020 posts.
Now the election commission has begun the preliminary works for these elections. Last time, 2 phase polling was held. Because of this there were no untoward incidents like violence.
After holding talks with the district collectors, the decision on two phase polling will be made.
