Entrance into medical colleges based on Plus 2 results this year

The Tamil Nadu government is now clear to start admissions for students to medical courses in government colleges. President Pranab Mukherjee signed the ordinance that was cleared by the Union Cabinet to postpone NEET on Tuesday.
This means that the admissions will be without an entrance examination. Instead, students who have completed their higher secondary course are eligible for application to medical colleges. They will be selected based on their marks in their Std. XII exams.
The State Health Department recently confirmed that it would ensure that steps are taken to admit students based on their Plus 2 marks alone as far as the current year was concerned. Speaking about this, an official from the Department said, Application forms will be made available soon and counselling will begin before June end. We can decide on the next year only after a response is received to the letters the Chief Minister has written to the Prime Minister. Incidentally, Tamil Nadu was one of the states that contested the Supreme Court order that made NEET mandatory for medical admission.
A member of the MBBS admission selection committee said, It is necessary for a uniform syllabus. However, it should start at the school level instead of in college. According to the ordinance, students of state boards will not have to sit for NEET on July 24. However, they will have to be part of the uniform entrance exam from the next academic session.
