More women voters this year, counting to start tomorrow as per schedule

The Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhani has said that women voters outnumbered men in the polling that ended on Monday. He declared that the State’s final poll percentage was 74.26 percent. He also said that counting in all the 68 secured stations would commence as per schedule on May 19 with postal votes. 

Speaking to the press, Mr. Lakhoni said, 4.28 crore people voted including 2,12,44,129 women voters. About 4 lakh more women turned up when compared to men. A re poll has been ordered on Wednesday at a booth in Ramnad following damage to ab EVM machine. 

Sources at the Public Election Department say, Districts including Chennai, Coimbatore and Trichy brought down the State’s polling percentage and women voters in these districts also turned out lesson numbers. According to data, the R.K. Nagar and Kolathur constituencies in Chennai saw more women voters when compared to the other constituencies. 

R.K. nagar, which is Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha’s constituency, saw 87,443 women voters and 85,368 men voters. Kolathur, which is M.K. Stalin’s constituency, recorded 85,308 women voters and 81,963 men voters. Vellore district, which has 13 assembly constituencies, saw more women voting also. Of the total 13 assembly seats, women voted more than their mail counterparts in ten assembly constituencies.
