Non-vegetarians continue to get blown on and on. Following the news that claims bacons to cause cancer and hot dogs carry human DNA, a new review now claims that consuming meat will increase mortality rate.

The review was performed by physicians at Mayo clinic in Arizona. This large scale study involved over 1.5 million people. In all of them, it was found that the all-cause mortality is raised in case of those who consume more meat, especially red or meat that are processed, taking it on a daily basis.

Following the detailed analysis in these six studies that evaluated the effect of meat and vegetarian food on the mortality, the authors suggest that the patients should be advised to lessen the intake of animal products whenever possible and take more of vegetables.

Brookshield Laurent, a researcher said the data obtained now reinforce the results we already know - there is a great potential for your diet to harm or heal. This evidence that is clinically proven can help physicians in suggesting patients about how important diet habits are; this will largely help in preventive care.

The reviewers also did observe an increase of life expectancy by 3.6 years with vegetarian diet for continuous 17 years while compared to short term vegetarians. The study reports were published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.
