According to a new study, all you want to add in your everyday diet is grapes as its polyphenols can fight against the negative effects of fat rich food intake you consume.

Consumption of some of the severe effects of saturated fat result in adverse consequences. These can be fought with grape polyphenols, claims two laboratory studies performed at University of North Carolina Greensboro.

According to the first study, the research findings state that taking diet rich in fat enhanced using 3 percent of grapes for a period of 11 weeks was found to carry lesser overall body fat and brought down subcutaneous fat deposits.

This dip in body fat were related to difference in intestinal microbes and health. For instance, it surges good bacteria, brings down bacterial strains, surges microbial diversity and enhances gut barrier function.

The second study took place for a period of 16 weeks. It involved use of higher fat diet carrying various layers of saturated fat inclusive of beef tallow, lard, butter all of which were more or less similar to western type diets.

The impact of high fat diet enhanced using extracts of polyphenol fraction of grapes and non-polyphenol parts of grapes were investigated. Further, the impact of high fat diet coupled with 5 percent whole grapes was studied too. Each of the high fat experimental diets were matched with the respective sugar type and level.

According to the results, when high fat diet and grape polyphenols are combined, there is significant reduction in the total volume of body fat, subcutaneous and visceral fat depots, bettered glucose tolerance and the barrier function of intestine, and markers of inflammation in fat and liver depots.

During the second study, there was no improvement with the 5 percent whole grape, but it showered improvement in markers of intestinal health. For example, better microbial diversity and reduced abundance of various deleterious bacteria along the intestinal tract.

Both the studies claim that grapes and grape polyphenol subside the severe effects of taking high fat diet and initiates betterment intestinal or overall health, said Michael McIntosh, the lead investigator. This is very exciting area of health, he added.
