The supreme Court adjourns the Medical Entrance Examination Case to 5th May

With the Supreme Court granting approval the Central Government’s proposal to conduct the Common Entrance Examinations for joining Medical Courses (MBBS and BDS) in 2 stages, The 1st stage examination was conducted on 1st May. The 2nd stage examination is scheduled on 24th July.
In this scenario, several states including Tamil Nadu submitted a petition opposing the common entrance examination (NEET) for MBBS and BDS Courses.
The states of Karnataka, Andhra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have filed a case asking for approval to conduct separate tests (usually conducted) along with the proposed NEET.
In these petitions, it was demanded that the respective states must be allowed to conduct the medical entrance examination based on the syllabus. Some private medical colleges also endorsed this appeal and filed petitions.
This case came up for hearing on yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd May) in the Supreme Court.
Justice T S Thakur informed that a bench of 3 judges will hear the case.
The bench of 3 judges, headed by Anil R Davey, started hearing the case at 2.00 PM.
The bench decided to adjourn the case on Thursday, 5th May.
The judges have also ordered the central department of Health and the Indian Medical Council to reply to the petitions presented by the state governments.
