Watermelon is a much sought-after fruit by the public especially during the scorching summer heat days in Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
However, there are words of caution from food safety experts about the selection of the right fruits:
You have to a thorough surface check while buying. If you find holes picked through needles, do not buy. These holes might have been used to inject water into the fruit to increase the weight.
Complaints have been received from the other states that some artificial colours are injected into these fruits. So far, there is no such complaint in Tamil Nadu. Nevertheless, it is better to be cautious.
While selling loose pieces, the traders must take care to sell in a healthy way. They have to use proper approved weighing with approved weights.If these are not followed, the items may be confiscated.
