Committee hikes fees medical courses in pvt colleges

The fee fixation committee, headed by former high court judge N V Balasubramanian, has marginally increased the MBBS fees in three of the 20 self-financing colleges in the state for academic year 2011-12. 

As per the revision, the fee structure for MBBS varies between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh per year. 

The lowest fees of Rs 1.5 lakh is for the Perunthurai Medical College and the Institute of Road Transport in Perunthurai, which did not apply for a fee revision this year. 

Fees at the two new colleges, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital in Perambalur and Annapoorna Medical College and Hospital in Salem, have been fixed at Rs 2.25 lakh, along with the Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences in Kanyakumari. 

For the rest, the fees will be Rs 2.5 lakh. The fees for the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences in Coimbatore and the Melmaruvathur Adiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research will continue to be Rs 2.5 lakh. The Chennai Medical College in Tiruchi has been allowed to collect Rs 2.5 lakh against Rs 2.25 lakh in 2010. 

Students joining the government medical colleges will continue to pay Rs 12,290 every year.
