The Madras High Court on Monday discharged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa from a wealth tax case against her.

The complaint against her was that she did not file the wealth tax returns for the 1993-94 assessment year within the due date. The case was pending before a magistrate court at Egmore.

Ms. Jayalalithaa filed a petition seeking discharge from the case; but the court dismissed the application. She filed a revision before the High Court, through counsel A. Navaneethakrishnan.

In his order, Justice P.R. Shivakumar set aside the lower court`s order.
