A caffeinated bracelet called Joule is the latest in a string of inventions that introduce caffeine into the body without the intake of coffee. This invention follows other such as a topical caffeine spray and caffeine gum, among others. Caffeinated accessories are made along the same principle as the nicotine patch. The Joule has a patch inside the bracelet that touches the skin on the wrist. Caffeine is absorbed through the skin.
According to the campaign for Joule, it promises all the positives of your coffee or energy drink with none of the negatives including the jitters or energy crashes.
One Joule skin patch has as much caffeine as can be found in one cup of coffee. However, the caffeine is distributed over four hours. This does not have the ill effects of drinking coffee, like an acidic stomach, calories or stained teeth.
However, experts say that this doesn`t necessarily mean that there are no side effects. They say that your body is still getting caffeine, and the fact that it does not go through the digestive system may make the effects stronger over a period of time.
