MRTS between Velacherry and St. Thomas Mount will take 18 months to complete

It is understood that the Mass Rapid Transit System for a distance of 500 meters in the final stretch between Velacherry and St. Thomas Mount is not likely to be completed in the near future. Southern Railway General Manager Vashishta Johri on Friday said they will need at least 18 months from the date of receiving land needed to complete the project.
This is due to some problem in the acquisition of land. Once the amount is paid by the State government (to the affected families) and the land is handed over to Southern Railway, the project would be completed in 18 months.
