TRAI pleas to make Aadhar a valid proof for SIM

TRAI has placed a plea to the Department of Telecom to accept electronic KYC of Aadhar Card as a valid proof at the time of applying for a new mobile connection. The recommendation was placed about 15 days ago, considering the ideas of the Solicitor General and the Attorney General.
The recommendation is sent along with others that the KYC of Aadhar card can be accepted as a valid proof while seeking a new mobile connection, said R S Sharma, the chairman of TRAI.
Once the government approves the same, it will then be easy to identify and use Aadhar card to provide new mobile connections with the help of biometric data of the card. This will largely help in speeding up the process of issuing new connection as the process will become entirely online.
