Saidapet bridge undergoing repair work

Repair work on the Saidapet bridge that was damaged during the floods last month is under way. The parapet walls that were broken when the river was in spate is being replaced. The repair work is being done by the State Highways Department.
According to officials, The structural integrity of the bridge has not been damaged and only superficial repair work is required. We checked the bearing (the portion between the pillars and the carriage) for its strength. There is no problem as it was replaced only five years ago. These bearings have a long life period and are at no risk for now.
The authorities also said that the work will be completed in two weeks time. The entire project will cost Rs. 8 lakhs.
