How to apply for a new ration card and make changes in existing?

Below are the details of how to apply for a family card (ration card), make changes or additions in the card.
- When a newly wed couple wants to apply for a family card, they should provide proof for the removal of their name from their parents ration card along with the completed application form.
- The completed application form for the new ration card has to be submitted to the circle officer of your locality. Address proof, aadhar card, voter id, electricity bill, bank passbook, passport - of these, show any one proof and send in your application.
- If the couple has got married opposing their family, they may not be able to get their parents ration card. Hence, they need to provide the ration card number to the circle officer and show their marriage registration certificate.
- If the ration card is damaged, you need to provide the necessary documents to the circle officer. In two months, a new ration card will be given to you.
- If the name of a newborn has to be added in the ration card, it can be done by showing the birth certificate of the baby after one year of age.
- For removal of members of ration card who has died, the death certificate should be shown within three days of obtaining it. This has to be shown to the circle officer for removing his or her name.

- In general, the ration card will be provided in two colos - green and white. Green ration cards are eligible for all sorts of products. For white color cards, kerosene, pulses and sugar can be purchased and not rice. The latter is provided for those who get ration card merely for address proof.
- If you do not want to buy any products using your ration card, but still want it for address proof, you need to visit your nearest state bank of India and take a DD for Rs 100. This has to be submitted to the circle office. In just one month, N card (in white color) will be given.
- When an application for new card is submitted, inspection will be carried out at the kitchen off your house. This is to check whether you are using gas cylinders. Make sure of their authenticity before letting such officials inside your home.
- For change of address, show the bill to the circle officer.
- It is always best to contact the officials directly rather than approaching through brokers, for all ration card related moves.
- For those who do not have any ration card or those who are brought up in orphanage can request for new card in writing to the circle officer.
