Posted on: 17/Jan/2016 6:36:12 PM
The Tamil Nadu government has been given the green flag to build a new thermal power plant in Chennai. The permission was given by the Union Environment Ministry. The power plant will have a capacity of 800 MW. The building will cost Rs. 4,800 crore. The government has decided to build it in the existing thermal power station premises in North Chennai.

The existing building has two units with a capacity of 600 MW each. The new project will, however, be the first in the State with a capacity of 800 MW.

Speaking about this, an official from TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board) said, The project would be set up on a barren land of 190 acres... We got the nod from environment ministry last month. The tenders for constructing boiler, turbine and generator as well as for civil works have been finalized and are ready to be awarded... We are hoping to get a date from the chief minister for performing the pooja and after that the project construction will start.
