Special Pongal Book Fair for 2016

Yes, the Chennai Book Fair for 2016 is not the regular one, but a special Chennai Pongal Book Fair 2016 by the publishers and booksellers. It is to be held between 13th and 24th of January.
The book fair conducted by the Tamil Nadu Books Sales and Promotions Association will consist of 225 book stalls. The venue this year is YMCA, Royapettah, said K. Nagarajan, publisher of Bharathi Puthakalayam, one of the book fair organizers.
The Chennai Book Fair usually takes place in the month of January. However, it is postponed to April for this year - the credit goes to heavy rains and flood in the city.
This book fair is a trump card for most publishers as they reap nearly half of their sales in a year during this fair. Before every book fair, these publishers print a lot of books and owe lump sum money as debts. Furthermore, people are ardent about buying books during the Pongal time. This has been in practice for many years, said Mr Nagarajan.
Another organizer, R. S. Shanmugam of Sri Shenbaga Padhipagam said people from across the world arrive at Chennai to take part in Pongal time. Publishers receive many calls. They are eager about buying books and cannot really wait till April. The proceeds from book fair tickets are donated towards flood relief.
Readers taking part in this fair will also be a part of the Chennai Book Fair set for April conducted by BAPASI. We are also members of BAPASI, he added, stating that the Chennai Book Fair will not get affected in any way, but will only boost the trade.
The final dates of the Chennai Book Fair by BAPASI are yet to be announced. It will be made once the Assembly election dates are fixed. Works are on the go for the Chennai Book Fair, and promotions for the same will begin soon too.
Now, the book fair is being organized by TN Books Sales and Promotions Association. The ticket funds will also be sent towards flood relief.
