CM Jayalalitha announces sports scholarship and reward

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha has announced a state sponsored scholarship to C.A. Bhavani Devi, a fencing champion.
Bhavani was enrolled in the Special Scholarship Scheme for Elite Sports Persons. Ms. Jayalalitha said that this would encourage her to win more international competitions. The youngster had won the bronze medal in the 18th Flemish Open fencing championship held at Ghent in Belgium last year.
Ms. Jayalalitha also announced a reward of Rs. 4 lakh to R. Rithik who won the gold in the national 10 meter Open Site Air Rifle under 17 event. Rethink is a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Chennai. The event was held by the School Games Federation of India in Madhya Pradesh last month. Announcing the reward, Ms. Jayalalitha said, I congratulate and wish him many more accomplishments bringing laurels to Tamil Nadu and the nation.
The state sponsored scholarship entitles the winner to a need based financial assistance of up to Rs. 25 lakhs per year for five years. Ms. Bhavani had earlier received aid of Rs. 3 lakhs to train in the US.
