Google and Lenovo team up to create depth sensing phone

Posted on: 10/Jan/2016 4:18:51 PM
Google and Lenovo have announced that they will team up to create a phone that is equipped with Project Tango capabilities. They have said that the phone is expected to roll out this summer.

Project Tango is Google`s computer vision project. The camera technology in the project will let a device detect space and map out a space in 3D. The device can also calculate distances between spaces.

The phone will have a Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. Speaking about this, an official from Lenovo said, Qualcomm has been working closely with the company on implementing the Project Tango feature. Just like Google, Qualcomm has been there right there with us, focusing on the experience... The phone will be more on the premium end of Android phones but will cost less than $500. We don`t want this to be a niche technology. We want it to be accessible to a large audience... It will be a great phone on its own, but this feature (depth sensing) will really be the key point of differentiation for this phone.
