Ban on meat on Thiruvalluvar Day

The Chennai Corporation Commissioner has announced that there will be a ban on sale of meat in any form on Thiruvalluvar Day that falls to be on the 16th of January.
In a press release issued about the same, it is stated that all the meat shops functioning under public healthcare department of Chennai Corporation will remain shut on Thiruvalluvar day, the 16th January.
Chicken, beef, mutton and all sorts of meats in any form - fresh or preserved - will be banned for sale on this day. All vendors should comply with the order by government, the statement added.
