Nation-wide bank strike on January 8

3.5 Lakh bank employees throughout the country including Tamil Nadu will go on strike today (8th January). Because of this, the banking operations will be affected on 8th January, 9th January (second Saturday) and 10th January (Sunday).
The strike call has been given to protest against violation of bilateral settlement by five associate banks of State Bank of India (State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Hyderabad and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur) and their attempt to force unilateral service conditions on the employees.
