Polio immunization on January 17

The annual polio immunization drive will take place in Chennai on Sunday (January 17). Children aged less than five years will be administered polio drops free of cost.
 
Oral drops will be administered from 7am to 5pm on Sunday.
 
There will be booths at corporation`s primary health centres, government hospitals, medical dispensaries, government schools, corporation schools, anganwadi centres, railway stations and the Koyambedu bus depot.
 
For the convenience of travelling children 1652 mobile units have been set up in important bus stands, railway stations and airports. There will also be 1000 mobile units to administer polio drops for the children living in interior area. More than 2 Lakhs persons, including government employees, noon-meal staff, officials from Health, Education and Social Welfare departments, service organizations, non-governmental organizations and members of Rotary Clubs, will be engaged in this work.
 
Some important factors on Polio immunization 
  • The polio drops will be administered between 7 AM to 5 PM
  • As a first installment, the polio drops will be administered to all the children lesser then 5 years on 17th January.
  • New born baby should also be given polio drops.
  • After the vaccination, a mark will be made with ink on one of the fingers of the child. This will help the volunteers identify children who have been administered polio vaccine. The children who do not have the mark on their fingers will be vaccinated during the visit.
