Ethanol only vehicles may be the future

Posted on: 17/Dec/2015 10:20:58 AM
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the country will soon allow automobile manufacturers to make vehicles that will run on ethanol entirely. Ethanol is a cleaner burning fuel than diesel or petrol. Ironically, the announcement was made on the same day that the Supreme Court banned the sale of big diesel cars in New Delhi. The capital is the world`s most polluted city.

Speaking at a conference, Mr. Gadkari said, Ethanol is the next big thing and Brazil has already shown the way in terms of running vehicles on the biofuel. The step will not only reduce our dependence on crude oil imports but also help reduce pollution. The ethanol vehicles will have the flexibility to switch to other fuels. More details would be available by Jan. 26.

As a result of the announcement, shares of ethanol manufacturer Praj Industries jumped to their highest in the BSE.

Automobile experts feel that the announcement is premature as the country`s infrastructure does not support ethanol only vehicles. It is very far-fetched.you can`t expect global carmakers to start working on that just for you. Blend is fine, because there are other countries which are running on that. Up to a 20 percent blend is a practical solution, they say.
