House hold articles damaged due to Chennai rains: Heavy demands for cots and beds

Due to heavy rains, there is great demand for cots and mattresses in Chennai.
Due to heavy rains in Chennai and its suburbs, water entered the houses. There was heavy downpour on 1st December. Due to this, there was flooding in the Adyar river which rose to 15 feet level submerging the huts and houses near the banks of Adyar rivers.
Because of these household articles like cot, mattresses, sofas, AC, washing machine, wet grinders, mixies and TV got severely damaged. These materials could not be reused.
Since cots and mattresses are damaged, the middle income people and rich people are running to furniture shops to buy these. Because of this, there is dearth for these materials. Furniture shop owners who are found in large numbers in Anna Salai have mentioned all the cots and mattresses have been sold out and there is no stock.
The owner of a very famous furniture shop in Teynampet said, People in large numbers come to buy cots and mattresses because water had entered the houses and damaged. Imported and domestic cots and mattresses have been sold out. We have taken lots of orders. Since many of the distributors shops were submerged in water there is great demand for cots and mattresses. There is also delay in getting it from other places because of rains.
When spoke to a person who came to buy a cot, he said, There are lots of insects in the houses because of the rain water. It is scary to sleep in the floors. There is fungus on the walls. We cannot make the children sleep on the floor. Hence cot and mattresses are immediately required. That is why are running from shop to shop.
Since there is shortage of wooden cots there is a great demand for steel cots.
