Government not sure when schools will reopen

While the Chennai collectorate has announced that schools and colleges in the city will be closed till December 13, the School Education department says they have not decided when they will reopen.
Many schools are serving as relief camps at the moment and until these people are rehabilitated and schools are safe and sanitized, they will not reopen. We have made a request to Chennai Corporation to undertake the sanitation efforts, but it will take a couple of days at least before they can start,sources in the School Education Department said.
The department has managed to restock their cache of textbooks, which will be distributed to government and government-aided students. Private schools will also be able to purchase textbooks if required.
Starting on December 14, for two weeks all schools in the city will act as special camps to help those who have lost their school certificates issued by the Directorate of Government Education. People can fill up the forms available at the camp, which will be forwarded to the department.
