New Victoria Public Hall to be opened by June-end

The century-old historical Victoria Public Hall, which is under renovation, will be opened to the public by June-end, said mayor M. Subramanian on Monday.
The multi-crore-renovation project is being carried out with grants from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and Corporation funds have also been diverted for the project, he said.
According to Corporation sources, the Victoria Public Hall had been renovated about four decades ago by then chief minister C. N. Annadurai and the building was not in public use for the past 25 years.
In other words, the hall, which played host to a number of eminent personalities, including Swami Vivekananda, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Subramania Bharati and Sardar Patel, who addressed large public gatherings here in the past, would be open to the people after a gap of about 43 years.
