Children`s Park in Guindy and Arignar Anna Zoo in Vandalur that are usually seen crowded with people and kids has been receiving a very few visitors in the past five days, obviously due to heavy rain showers in the city and its suburbs.

Park managers say, the total number of visitors until Monday was just 3,100 including children. Similarly, there were 9,200 visitors to the children`s park during the same period. People had no other go other than to stay indoors because of incessant rainfall on Sunday and Monday. There were many places that got waterlogged. This largely contributed to the lesser number of visitors to the Children`s Park, said a senior wildlife officer.

In general, when a five days holiday is declared, there will be more than 25,000 visitors to the zoo and 10,000 to the Children`s Park, said one other officer here.

On the day of Diwali, there were more than 5,000 visitors to Vandaloor Zoo. This was followed by the onset of monsoon which brought down the numbers as compared to previous years, said a zoo official.

The seven water bodies present inside the Guindy National Park are brimming with water. The Otteri Lake within the zoo has absorbed several local migratory birds. This is a real treat for bird watchers, said KSSVP Reddy, the zoo director.

The level of water present in the park and zoo will be of help in managing water shortage in July next year. Further, it will be easy for managing the forthcoming summer holiday without any hindrance.
