Decision to increase Maternity Leave Period to 26 weeks

Information is gathered that plans are under way to extend the maternity leave for working women from the current 12 weeks to 26 weeks.
This decision has been taken after the discussions the officials of the department of central employee welfare ministry had with Employees` Union Representatives.
The information gathered that there are plans to provide 12 weeks of maternity leave in case of adoption of a child or during surrogate maternity delivery.
This meeting was conducted in order to arrive at aspects to be included in the draft petition regarding employees` welfare.
It is gathered from the employee unions that a decision has been taken regarding setting up creches where more than 30 women are employed.
