The North East Monsoon which commenced on 28th of the last month has now intensified. Because of this all the dams, ponds and lakes are getting filled up fast. At the same time, due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, water is also stagnating in low lying areas.

Since, in some areas the water reservoirs have been filled up to the brim the water is being released in canal and rivers. The heavy rains lashed from Thursday night continued till Friday evening in Chennai. Water entered the houses in the low lying areas in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts. So the people in these houses were shifted to temporary camps. As on Friday, 18 thousand people in Tamil Nadu were shifted to 68 camps. In Cuddalore alone 23 camps have been setup. 5400 people have been temporarily been shifted here. Similarly there are 10 camps in Chennai. Seven thousand people have been shifted here. There are 28 camps in Kancheepuram. 6000 people are staying there now.

Free food and medical aid are been supplied by politicians and other charitable organizations. The people will return home once the water recedes in their houses.
