Safety Measures to Follow This Diwali

Officials at the fire service department have insisted on a few safety measures to follow during this Diwali. Letting the children fire crackers under the supervision of elders and wearing tight fitting dresses are among the points stressed.
 
People, children and everyone are gearing up to celebrate Diwali this year that falls on th 10th of November. Due to absence of enough safety measures, fire accidents take place each and every year. The fire service department has rolled out 12 points as advices to prevent accidents on the day of festival of lights. Ten suggestions are provided too.
 
The officials are also involved in awareness camp at places where school children, college goers and parents are found in large numbers.
 
Speaking about this, C. Praveen Kumar, an official at the Madurai fire service department said it is important to stay safe while celebrating this Diwali. 
  • Crackers need to be burst at distant places from our home
  • Crackers like rockets need to be burst only at places that do not have any hut
  • The crackers should not be burst inside tin or bottles
  • Unexploded crackers should not be taken in hand
  • Wear slippers while bursting crackers
  • Never keep crackers inside the pockets in dress
  • Crackers should be burst only under the supervision of elders. Under no circumstance should a child be allowed to burst crackers alone
  • Crackers should never be burnt from hand
  • It is important to have a bucket full of water nearby while bursting crackers
  • Wear tight fitting dresses
  • It is better to wear cotton dresses
  • Make use of lengthy agarbathi for firing the cracker
  • Dispose all inflammable objects from in and around the area of bursting crackers
  • Wash your hands with soap immediately after bursting crackers. This is essential to get rid of all chemicals from the hand
  • If you catch fire, never run away. You can turn off the fire by pouring water or fall down and roll
  • Pour water on the burnt areas
  • Kalimbu can be used over the wound. Never use coconut oil on the wound
  • Make sure the fire spark doesn`t enter your eye. Wash your eyes with cold water immediately. Take the victim to a hospital immediately
