Special Counters for Women and Physically Challenged at CMBT

Works to setup temporary platforms for enabling the function of buses without advance booking took place yesterday. With Diwali fast approaching, heavy crowd of people is expected at the Koyambedu bus terminus from today. Hence, 1106 special buses are arranged to meet the increase in demand. Exclusive counters for women, physically challenged and elders are set up at CMBT.
 
Tickets to express trains destined to southern districts are fully sold. Catering to the increasing needs for travel, 11,959 special buses are arranged from Koyambedu to all district capitals and important towns of districts. People throng in to the Koyambedu bus terminus to get their tickets booked in advance.
 
The Tamil Nadu government has opened 15 new counters for managing the crowd to book tickets. This is inclusive of 2 counters each for women and physically challenged. Apart from these, ticket distribution is also carried out at the 10 permanent counters at the terminus. There are people in large queues to grab their ticket. So far, over 20,000 advance ticket bookings are done.
 
There are also people who do not pre-plan their journey for this Diwali. Hence, to facilitate them, temporary platforms - 7, 8 and 9 were setup yesterday. Officials will be indulged in guiding the public to board the bus they want to travel in. These officials will start functioning from tomorrow.
 
Those who plan to enjoy 4 days holiday by taking off to work on Monday will begin their journey from today. Keeping these people in mind, 1106 special buses are made available by the department. Necessary works and arrangements are being done by Minister of Transport, P. Thangamani and higher officials at the transportation department.
