The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has ambitious plans for the next academic year, ranging from the introduction of several new courses to creating new facilities.

PG diploma courses would be offered in veterinary orthopaedics, veterinary ophthalmology, ethno veterinary practices, small animal internal medicine, small animal emergency and critical care management, small animal cardiology and small animal dermatology. An MVSc or MSc degree programme in biostatistics and MSc in bioinformatics are also in the offing, while six PG diploma and certificate courses at the Veterinary College and Research Institute in Namakkal will be launched in the 2011-12 academic year.

Vice-chancellor Dr R Prabakaran said,  "We have been receiving several requests from practising veterinarians on short-term courses that would help them in treating small and large animals brought to them. We will be introducing 10 need-based postgraduate diploma courses in addition to other degree programmes."
