Art Chennai Hosts The Inaugural Edition Of India’s Festival

Art Chennai, India’s largest festival for Contemporary and Modern Art was launched today in Chennai. It is the first ever art extravaganza to be held in Chennai represented by the top 22 Art Galleries with 27 art shows, exhibiting over 2500 artworks reflecting the finest at the art circuit across the globe. The event is scheduled to be held from March 20-26, 2011 across Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces and other popular galleries of Chennai.

Announcing the launch of the comprehensive summit, Sanjay Tulsyan, Convener, art Chennai said, “this will be a milestone event for visual art in chennai as all forms of modern and contemporary art will be showcased across the city.”

Also present during the launch event were Members of the Advisory Board of art Chennai – Ms. Revathy – Actor & Director, Mr. Pradipto Mahapatra - Chairman Coaching Foundation India Ltd, Rtn S Gunashekar - President Rotary Club of Madras, Mr. Ramesh Ramanathan - Managing Director, Mahindra Holidays, 

In its very first year, the week-long art Chennai is expected to attract over 15000+ art enthusiasts from across the globe which includes art collectors, artists, critics, curators and general public. The weeklong summit will include diverse range of paintings, sculptures, photography, mix media, prints, caricatures, installations, video lounge for digital art by established and upcoming artists. The special shows are designed to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, 100th birth anniversary of K.C.S. Panicker, Professor Santhanaraj and many other distinguished artists.

The event will host a unique Art Residency programme under which popular artists will paint live at various venues. The event will also witness different seminars, workshops on art and networking opportunities with eminent art collectors and consultants.

The grand finale will encompass an auction that will feature art work exhibited at the weeklong event which will be held on March 26th. The proceeds from auction will benefit Rotary club of madras
