Panasonic’s first ‘eco ideas’ Factory in India, spread across 76 acres

Panasonic India, the leader in innovation and technology announced the ‘ground breaking ceremony’ of its largest manufacturing unit in India at Jhajjar, Haryana. Shri Deepinder Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament, Haryana, Shri. Rajeev Arora, MD, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) graced the occasion along with senior representatives from Panasonic.

The construction of the manufacturing unit will commence in April 2011, and the completion is envisaged to be completed by April 2012. It will house facilities that can manufacture an estimated 1,000,000 sets of air conditioners, 400,000 sets of washing machines and 25,000 sets of welding and cutting machines per annum.

The new unit will manufacture air-conditioners, washing machines, welding and cutting machines after March 2012; with an investment of about US $200 million (about Rs. 908 crores) over a period of five years and the mass production will start in August 2012. The products are catered to the domestic market and the manufacturing unit will be providing employment to approximately 3500 staff once it is fully developed and operational.

Mr Ikuo Miyamoto, Managing Director, Panasonic Asia Pacific commented, “This factory is an important step for our India operations as we are looking at manufacturing Home Appliances within India itself. As part of our ‘eco ideas’ Declaration in 2010, this manufacturing unit will be built in accordance with the guidelines of the ‘eco ideas’ Factory. This is part of our company’s commitment to become the No.1 Green Innovation Company in the electronics industry by 2018.”
Mr. Daizo Ito, President, Panasonic India, said, “This manufacturing unit will be part of our consolidation in India. We have a growing confidence in the Indian market, and the response from our consumers. India is a very important market; especially for the global Panasonic direction. This manufacturing unit is definitely an important part of our business strategy in India.
